The Real Price of Food

Able Magazine featured Part II of our article in their September issue. Click here for a direct link.

You may also want to get ahead of the curve and put the film Food Inc. in your Netflix cue (it comes to DVD in November). Like any documentary, it has it’s moments of hyperbole, but all-in-all, opens up a much-needed debate about the real price of food, and what we can do about it.

Food vs. Dollar

Our “Food vs. Dollar” article was published in the August edition of Able Magazine. Click here to read the article and learn a bit more about how to be a budget-wise but healthy consumer. While you’re at it, peruse the magazine in it’s entirety — several thought-provoking articles and lots of great info!

Attentive Health goes to Washington

Denise G. Lantz (President & Founder, Attentive Health LLC) & Elizabeth N. Lawton (President & Founder, Nutritious Harmony LLC)

Denise G. Lantz (President & Founder, Attentive Health LLC) & Elizabeth N. Lawton (President & Founder, Nutritious Harmony LLC)

Attentive Health LLC is pleased to announce the launch of a partnership with Nutritious Harmony LLC, a Washington D.C.-based wellness company and consultant to various organizations inside the “beltway”. Nutritious Harmony’s latest project is to provide employee and leadership training at US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in the Washington Navy Yard. Attentive Health has been contracted to develop and facilitate the leadership portion of that training, a program dubbed ”Operation YOU”.

“Operation YOU” has been specifically designed to engage leadership in the process of personal health transformation, while also attuning them to the needs of their entire organization. It has been said that great leaders are stewards of productive, positive energy, both in themselves and in those around them. Attentive Health’s program aims to increase and facilitate exactly that within the culture of NAVSEA. The first segment of the 6-month/6-module training course is titled “Mission Engagement” and was delivered on June 19, 2009 to the first group of NAVSEA leaders, including the admiral who is leading the initative.

In some ways, this has been a bit of a “coming home” for Attentive Health President & Founder, Denise Lantz, who grew up on Naval bases throughout the US & abroad over the course of her father’s career as a Navy Chaplain. It also marks another step forward in Attentive Health’s mission to incorporate wellness into the busy lives of modern, everyday people.

Eating Healthy on a Budget

istock_000006878490xsmall“Eating Healthy on a Budget” has been the topic of two recent Attentive Health workshops — first on July 1 to employees of Lacher & Associates in Souderton, PA and again on July 9th to members of the Lower Bucks County chapter of “Powerful You!”, a local women’s networking group. During a tough economy, these sorts of topics are always apropos, but in this case, the information turned out to be timely in another sense: helping attendees learn more about the real cost of food.

As it turns out, Denise Lantz, who presented the workshops, happened to be in Washington D.C. during the debut of the documentary film “Food, Inc.” — an attempt to raise awareness among the general public about the nature of the US food industry. While films of this nature are inherently biased on some level, there is something to be said for the points the film makes about hidden costs and unintended consequences of mass food production in the United States. Everything from food safety and health concerns to economic debates and political issues are covered by the film’s producers.

The bottom line? Try not to be penny wise and pound foolish. Among the many cost-saving tips are reminders of how fortunate we are these days, ways to be smart about how we spend our food dollars, and a call to vote with our forks for better quality food in the future… good common sense information that we can all benefit from.

Wellness in the Workplace

Attentive Health LLC had the honor of presenting “Wellness in the Workplace” to the Eastern Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Group on June 24, 2009. The meeting was hosted by the Briarbush Nature Center in Abington and approximately 30 professional women from around the area were in attendance.
